RRC/Jerusalén: El Gabinete de Seguridad de Israel aprobó un plan propuesto por el primer ministro Benjamin Netanyahu para ocupar militarmente la ciudad de Gaza, según un comunicado de la Oficina del Primer Ministro.
El plan, que busca derrotar a Hamás y garantizar la seguridad de Israel, implica que las Fuerzas de Defensa de Israel (FDI) tomen control de la ciudad de Gaza, donde viven cientos de miles de palestinos, mientras se asegura la provisión de ayuda humanitaria a la población civil fuera de las zonas de combate.
Sin embargo, el plan ha generado controversia, con advertencias de la ONU sobre «consecuencias catastróficas» para los civiles palestinos y los rehenes israelíes, así como oposición interna, incluido el jefe del Estado Mayor, Eyal Zamir, quien expresó preocupaciones sobre los riesgos para los rehenes y la posibilidad de que las fuerzas israelíes queden atrapadas en un conflicto prolongado.
Las familias de los rehenes también han protestado, argumentando que la ocupación pone en peligro a sus seres queridos y que la única solución viable es un acuerdo negociado con Hamás.
